Four ways into Omaha

Reach downtown first, then choose how much driving fits

Old Market, Gene Leahy Mall, Heartland of America Park, the convention district, and the Bob Kerrey bridge can share a walking day. Henry Doorly Zoo, Lauritzen Gardens, Joslyn, Dundee, Benson, and western Omaha are much easier with a car or confirmed ride. A downtown room paired with a vehicle for the zoo and neighborhood day keeps the walkable core easy without adding unnecessary driving.

Eppley Airfield (OMA)

Eppley sits northeast of downtown near the Missouri River, close enough for a short transfer when traffic and terminal construction cooperate. Confirm the current rental-car process, taxi and rideshare pickup points, shuttle arrangements, and parking route directly with the airport before landing.

I-80 from Lincoln, Des Moines, or the west

I-80 is the principal east–west approach and crosses the metro south of downtown. I-480 provides the most direct central-city connection, while I-680 serves western Omaha. Check the exact hotel entrance before the final split; Old Market, convention-district, and west-Omaha addresses do not share one useful exit.

I-29 from Kansas City or Sioux City

I-29 follows the Iowa side of the Missouri River. Drivers reach central Omaha through the I-480 corridor or another signed river crossing according to the destination and current road work. Tournament, concert, and arena traffic can slow the final bridge and downtown blocks even when the interstate remains clear.

Amtrak at Omaha station

The California Zephyr serves Omaha on its Chicago–Emeryville route. The station at 1003 South 9th Street lies just south of the Old Market near the rail corridor, but arrival may be outside ordinary hotel-shuttle hours. Confirm the live train status and a taxi or rideshare before stepping off.

Downtown after check-in

Park once for the Old Market and RiverFront

A central garage or hotel space can cover the Old Market, Gene Leahy Mall, Heartland of America Park, Lewis & Clark Landing, CHI Health Center, and the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge. Moving the car between each stop usually exchanges a pleasant walk for another garage entry.

Charles Schwab Field sits north of the Old Market, and crowds can reshape garage availability, street controls, and the time needed to leave. Reserve the room early and follow current event instructions rather than an ordinary downtown routine.
