Omaha moves from the zoo’s broad campus to brick downtown blocks, Missouri River parks, Art Deco interiors, and west-Omaha neighborhoods.

Henry Doorly Zoo takes one full day. Union Station or The Joslyn begins the second, while the Old Market and RiverFront fit around arrival and departure.

Zoo day and museum day

The zoo fills one day. Union Station or The Joslyn begins the second, followed by Lauritzen Gardens, Dundee, or Benson according to location and weather.

Check in downtown, walk the Old Market’s warehouse blocks, continue into Gene Leahy Mall, and save the longer RiverFront route for another morning when arrival runs late.

4:00 PM

Day 2

Enter Henry Doorly Zoo with priorities, not a completion target.

Enter Henry Doorly Zoo near opening, visit the highest-priority outdoor habitat first, and use the large indoor complexes around weather, lunch, and tired legs.

8:30 AM

Breakfast

Eat before leaving for the zoo.

Eat before the zoo, carry water, and plan one real meal break inside rather than relying on snacks through a long walking day.

1:00 PM

Afternoon

Eat lunch near the next indoor habitat.

Use the Desert Dome, Lied Jungle, aquarium, or another indoor complex according to the current route, then decide whether the group has one major area left or should begin the return.

Day 3

Union Station, art or gardens, then Dundee.

Start inside Union Station at The Durham Museum or among the galleries and gardens at The Joslyn. Add Lauritzen Gardens only when its grounds are the day’s second priority; otherwise continue to Dundee for independent shops and dinner.

8:30 AM

Breakfast

Eat near the hotel before the museum opens.

Downtown breakfast keeps The Durham Museum close. For The Joslyn, leave after breakfast and continue west to Dundee later in the day.

10:00 AM

Museum and neighborhood day

Choose Durham or Joslyn before crossing town.

The Durham Museum pairs naturally with the Old Market and railroad history. The Joslyn puts art and its pink-marble campus west of downtown, closer to Dundee. Lauritzen Gardens is the outdoor alternative south of downtown when the weather favors its conservatory and grounds.

Afternoon

Continue to one garden or neighborhood.

From Joslyn, Dundee is the shorter west-Omaha continuation. From Union Station, the Old Market and RiverFront remain close. Lauritzen Gardens combines a conservatory and extensive outdoor grounds south of downtown.

Departure

Riverfront walk, checkout, and departure.

Stay close to downtown on the final morning: Lewis & Clark Landing, the bridge approach, or breakfast near the hotel before checkout.

8:30 AM

Departure morning

Walk Lewis & Clark Landing before returning for checkout.

Walk Lewis & Clark Landing and the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge while the riverfront is quieter, then return for checkout with enough time for airport or interstate traffic.
